Federer vs Nadal vs Djokovic
Long time ago in a galaxy far far away an era of unprecedented rivalry has begun. It was back in 2004 when it first started, a rising star was on the climb conquering every ATP hard court masters and taking grand slams like collecting little stones on a beach. And it was here again on the Miami court when Federer realized that a formula for his invincible game was found. A 17 old raging boy attacked mercilessly and surprised the then rising star with a game no one has seen before.
After a series of battles we witnessed a great fight and some of the best tennis matches ever through the years. But now it seems like that era is over. Federer with his 29 looked like a tired old man last night against Nadal. It was back here where it all started, at the Miami ATP Masters, but this time Federer only showed a glimpse of what he used to be. All Nadal did to win this match is attack his weaker side, the backhand. The swiss still managed to pull off some big cross-court backhands, but he didn’t have the psychological strength to maintain consistency, and got demolished in somewhat more than an hour.
I always believed that Federer can come back with the spirit that he once possessed, fearless and vacant. But for the sake of the tennis fans, there is another great warrior getting pumped up. Djokovic plays this season like no other with 23 straight matches in a row. If the final is even close to the match at Indian Wells finals, no matter if he beats Nadal or not, this could be a sign of another great rivalry, the beginning of a new tennis era.
